At Home: A Short History of Private Life

At Home: A Short History of Private Life - Bill Bryson Mr.Bryson changed the entire focus of my life with his Brief History of Everything, so it was thrilling to see this brilliant and comparatively new concept as a 1 euro paperback in the teaser box of a used book store.

As others have mentioned, it quickly became clear that the book was long on research and short on editing, but it was just as satisfying to sample as needed.

Perhaps it's the sheer number of pages he's written, but for the first time his neo-Irish Catholic habit of mixing explicit detail with ugly truths seemed a bit tiresome as a way to sustain tension in a topic that is customarily one's refuge from same.
